Game Dev Tycoon Guide : Based on Experience đź’š

Contents

Game Dev Tycoon is a business simulation game in which you relive gaming history by establishing your own video game creation company in the 1980s.

Initially, I was unsuccessful because I didn’t know which aspects were important with which genres. But I gathered the following information from my experience: Don’t Do’s and Should Do’s and Best Game Combinations.

Don’t Do These Things in Game Dev Tycoon.

  • Don’t create a massive game. If you cannot get 2D Graphics V3 or 3D Graphics V2, please only use these graphics for Large Games.
  • Don’t go over budget when playing, particularly when you aren’t taking the Simple Level.
  • Do not make another game that has the same engine. This could cause lousy reception and low sales also.
  • Do not make an expansion to an existing MMO Game right after releasing the MMO Game to avoid poor reception of the expansion.
  • Do not create more than two games with the same genre or subject in a row. This could result in low sales and poor reception.
  • Do not create a AAA Game if you have not yet unlocked 3D Graphics V6.
  • Do not make another game immediately after having designed the game. Whatever number of points it contains, it will result in bad reception.

Things You Should Do in Game Dev Tycoon

  • Be sure your game is free of Bugs; Even one glitch could result in 9/10 instead of 10/10.
  • Create your Game Report of all your games immediately to gain more research points as well as more understanding of what you can do
  • Always make use of the Sliders in the way that we will instruct you.
  • Always make sure you have the most effective combinations.
  • Ensure you have your employees trained in various fields to create a more effective AAA game.
  • If you’ve got the Booster Ability attribute on one of your employees, you must be sure to utilize it appropriately. For example, I have a worker with Booster ability and assigned him to Gameplay. Then click Boost to see if the development has reached Gameplay, and follow the same process for the other employees.
  • Ensure you train all your employees in the department you want to make the game.
  • Don’t add features to places where they’re not required since it will cause you to spend a lot of money and won’t benefit you much.

Don’t Create Two or More Consecutive Games with the same Genre

First, choose a genre for your first and subsequent games. Action, strategy, adventure, RPG, simulation, and casual are genres. Your game’s genre determines which game development stages matter.

You can later construct action/adventure and RPG/strategy games. Never make numerous games of the same genre in a row; it may hurt sales.

You Should Be Aware of the Game Systems You Release

You can release your game on the IBM PC-like PC and the Govodore 64. As the market expands, you can make games for those systems. The game’s game mechanisms become more diversified and outmoded.

Be careful which console or gaming system you release games on because its market share may be small.

Understand the stages of game development

When you “build” a game, you go through three “stages” These stages allow you to choose your game’s focus. First, decide how much time to spend on the game’s engine, gameplay, and story/quests. Second-stage choices include dialogue, level design, and AI. Last, choose world design, visuals, and sound. Depending on the type of game you’re making, you’ll prioritize different aspects.

Eliminate Bugs

During “game design,” your character and workers would bubble. These bubbles represent the game’s bugs, design, and technology. The three factors affect how well and how much your game sells.

Do Create Games with Different Topics

The particular game topic is another consideration. Start with four random themes. You can add themes by researching for 10 points each. Never release two games with the same topic, as the second will perform poorly in sales and reviews.

Be Aware of your Target Audience

After investigating the option in your third year, you can target audiences for your games. You can target games for kids, adults, and everyone. After researching this option, you must choose one of three target groups for each game.

If you don’t need a license, don’t buy it

You must pay a license charge to access markets other than PC and G64. Console-specific license prices vary. It might be $20,000 to $500,000+. Buy licenses only as needed and be aware of each gaming system’s lifetime.

Stay updated with Platform News

Quick gaming “updates” These demonstrate trends in gaming outside consoles. They also show gaming genres and subjects.

Identify the attributes of your employees before hiring them

After earning $2,000,000, you can move into a bigger studio. This lets you recruit coders and programmers to make your company’s games. While pricey, you have additional game designers beneficial. You hire tech and design experts.

You can specify an advertising budget and skill filters when hiring a new employee. You can filter complex algorithms, showreels, and gaming demos. The first eliminates tech-savvy applicants. The second lists designers. The third score combines both.

Each employee has speed, research, and level. The speed statistic measures how rapidly functioning “bubbles” rise. Research creates more bubbles. After reaching specific levels, they can specialize.

Create a Game Report

When possible, write game reports. Creating one per game release helps you collect research points. These analyses show you which genres and themes perform well together and on which console/platform. +++ is the best — the worst.

Game Dev Tycoon Combinations

Now you’ll be assaulted with Game Dev Tycoon statistics and charts. We’ll explain plus and minus numbers before you drown in them.

Combos are the “meat” of Gaming Dev Tycoon because every title you build depends on its genre, topic, audience goal, and game system. These combinations range from 🌟 (good)  to ❌(bad) .Combo scores can make or break a game. So, onto the charts!

For instance, you can use the Best Game Dev Tycoon Combos to increase the effectiveness of the game’s sales.

Guide to Multi-Genre Game Development

If you wish to develop a Multi-Genre Game, include at least two Best Combinations. For example, a Vampire + Action + RPG game has an excellent chance of succeeding, whereas a Zombie + Action + Adventure game may be poor.

How To Create A Console in Game Dev Tycoon

To unlock the Hardware Lab and R&D Lab in Game Dev Tycoon, you must be in the 4th Upgraded Office and have a large amount of money. If you do, you can hire anyone to be a technology specialist and conduct custom hardware research in the R&D Lab to construct a console.

Making a console costs a lot of money, so I advise you to include all the newest features you discover through research and ensure maximum quality. This will benefit you in the long run because the console won’t break easily, and you’ll receive fewer customer complaints, allowing you to spend less on the hardware lab once it’s released.

Before building a console, you should also be aware that making a game exclusively for it would only marginally increase console sales. To fully benefit from this market, you must make your games exclusive.
